The sale consisted of a spectacular private owner collection of jewelry and objets d'art. Francois Curiel, the senior appraiser at Christie's, said it was the finest collection of modern jewelry Christie's had ever handled. From the Gilded Age diamond bow brooch of Empress Eugenie (later owned by Mrs. William B. Astor), to Cartier's fabulous 'Mystery Clock' designed by Maurice Couet for Cartier in 1927, to the superb fancy intense pink diamond of 14.23 carats, the rarest natural wonder known to exist.
